We are excited to announce that KYOTO MARATHON will mark a new step in 2021 by organizing the first-ever "online marathon*."
* Using a smartphone app, runners may participate in the marathon event whenever and wherever they desire within a period specified by the organizer.
So far, a total of 142,347 runners have joined KYOTO MARATHON races, running around the ancient city of Kyoto with smiles on their faces. Every runner has a story to tell, and every story has inspired us. We want to take this opportunity to thank those runners and everyone who has made the marathon events possible.
Out of our sincere wish to keep the legacy of KYOTO MARATHON alive despite the uncertainties in the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to hold an online marathon to support runners in continuing to take on positive challenges. Though we cannot welcome you all to Kyoto, we are all together in spirit. We want you all to enjoy running 42.195 km in a way you've never done before as you picture yourselves running down the streets of Kyoto, knowing that we will meet again in the not-so-distant future, so long as you have the strength and energy to keep running.
And this is not the end - We are also planning to hold a running event at Nishikyogoku Athletic Park on February 21, 2021, the day when KYOTO MARATHON 2021 was originally scheduled. Details of the event, as well as information on KYOTO MARATHON 2021, will be announced by the end of September on the KYOTO MARATHON official website.
We will remain committed to putting our hearts and souls into making KYOTO MARATHON a fantastic event that everyone can enjoy being a part of. Your continued support in our endeavors will be most appreciated.
